St. Charles templates and forms for coaches and managers

We have collected a number of forms and documents meant to make things a little easier for St. Charles coaches. We would like to thank one of our coaches, Dale Cherpin, who created the handy practise templates that coaches can use to keep a record of the drills they like to use, jot down drills they see elsewhere, or prepare practice schedules for their players.

Please click on any of the links to download the template or file you would like to use:

Hockey Canada 2009 / 10 Playing rules emphasis

From:
Marcel Redekop, Officer, Hockey Canada, Chair Officiating Committee
Vernon Doyle, Referee-in-Chief, Hockey Canada

The 2009 – 2010 Rules Emphasis has been approved by the Hockey Canada Board of Directors, and mandates that all Hockey Canada participants are to adhere to these guidelines. The enforcement of this rules standard in our game will continue to allow for improved skill development and positive hockey experiences. The mission of Hockey Canada is clear; the game will be enhanced through the application of the standard of enforcement and rules emphasis.

RULES EMPHASIS

CHECKING TO THE HEAD (contact physically or with a stick to another players’ head area).

Deliberate checks to the head remain to be a major problem in today’s game. Concussions not only deprive players of playing time, they end players’ careers and can have long term effects.

Notice to novice parents RE: Rep hockey

To Parents of Players born in 2001 and 2002:

It was always Knights of Columbus Athletic Club’s “A” Program Mandate to have our very best KC players in each division (known as the Rep Program) playing against the very best players from other teams inside Edmonton Minor Hockey. The “Rep Program” inside Knights of Columbus Athletic Club represents just that, our best and most talented KC players competing against the very best in the city.

For the past 8 years, the KC NOVICE tier 1 program has been operated by St Matthew Hockey. By doing so, this has allowed individuals the opportunity to play at the Novice 1 level. Today, The KC Board of Directors announce they are expanding their “A” Program and will add the NOVICE tier 1 program into the Knights of Columbus Athletics Clubs “Rep Program” effective immediately. We would like to thank St Matthew Hockey for their dedication and commitment to the Novice tier 1 division throughout the past 8 years. Hockey equipment guide

When purchasing hockey equipment, the most important aspect to consider is that it is properly fitted. Equipment should never be bought to grow into. This leaves the player at risk of serious injury, as equipment that is too big will slide away from the area that it is protecting. The primary function is to absorb the shock of impact and distribute the force across a wide area, minimizing the shock transmitted to the player’s body. Never use street hockey equipment on the ice. It is not made to withstand the force of a vulcanized rubber hockey puck. Yes, ice hockey equipment is expensive, but with the expense comes durability.

There’s a lot of good reasons to wear proper equipment! Read the rest of this entry »

St. Charles’ Initiation Program

initiationOur Initiation program is available to boys and girls up to the age of 6. Players can make requests to be on the same team as their friends or family members. We try and accommodate all requests. We have scheduled practices on Saturdays and weekly games on Sundays. Practice time and game times vary. The practices are 1 hour long and are held at Grand Trunk, Castle downs or Knight of Columbus arenas.

During the practices, players who cannot skate will learn the very basics, like standing and walking on ice for the first time. They will then progress in learning how to skate, stop and playing with the puck. For those that can skate they will start to learn basic hockey skills, like pushing the puck, passing, and shooting on net.

Our Initiation teams play other Initiation teams from the other Parishes in the KC Organization. The hockey games are 1 hour long. They play at Castledowns arena on ½ ice. Each team plays six players with 1 player taking turn in goal. The players play 3 minute non stop shifts. After each shift the players are rotated and 6 new players go on the ice. No score is kept and no hockey rules are called.

Full hockey equipment is required for practices and games. A hockey jersey and socks are required for practices. Team jerseys and socks are supplied by for the games.

If you have further questions, please contact our Registrar.
