Public skating and shinney now available at City rinks

The City of Edmonton has released its new schedules for both public skating and youth shinney (drop in hockey). This is a great way for kids to get extra ice time, develop their skills, and have some fun with their family and/or friends.

Please note: the City is also running a survey asking people what they would like to see for shinney and public skating. Be sure to register your opinions by clicking here and filling in the survey.

2010-2011 Hockey Canada rules emphasis bulletin

Hockey CanadaEach year Hockey Canada chooses certain rules to emphasize to “continue to allow for improved skill development and positive hockey experiences”.

This year’s rules emphasis deals with checking to the head (which they define as contact physically or with a stick to another players’ head area).

“Deliberate checks to the head remain to be a major problem in today’s game. Concussions not only deprive players of playing time, they end players’ careers and can have long term effects.” Click here to read the full 2010-11 Rules Emphasis bulletin (PDF).
