Each year St. Charles asks all the Initiation parents to volunteer during Minor Hockey Week. This is a fun tournament, and volunteers from previous years have always said this is the most enjoyable volunteer responsibility they have with their childrens’ athletics.
The 2010 Minor Hockey Week will be held from Jan 15 – 24th
MHW Volunteer Information
Each initiation player must have one person volunteer to help with the arena that St. Charles manages during the Minor Hockey Week (MHW) tournament. The tournament is usually in January, and the schedules become available in December. A few different functions are required for each game:
- Facility setup – Helps set up the arena the night before the tournament starts.
- Snacks – Provides snacks and refreshments for the volunteers and referees throughout the weekend.
- Checkers – All teams who play in MHW are required to play every player on their roster at least twice each period. The checkers verify that each player has played twice, and notify the coaches towards the end of each period if they have a player who has not had 2 shifts.
- Cashier – There is a small admission fee charged to attend MHW games, and the cashier sells those tickets (as well as the weekly passes, which are also available).
- Time keeper – works the scoreboard and fills in the game sheet (with penalty box keeper)
- Penalty box keeper – works the gates of the penalty boxes and helps fill in the game sheet.
- Floater – fills in as needed
